Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Lynwood, California, where this QI project is conducted, is a high-risk, medically underserved community. Smoking is prevalent within Lynwood and residents are disproportionally affected by tobacco-related diseases such as lung cancer, COPD, and coronary artery disease. This community did not have a smoking cessation program. The aim of this QI project was to develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of a peer-led smoking cessation support group (SCSG) within the high-risk community of Lynwood.
