Today’s EFL students need both advanced language skills and an appreciation of English- speaking cultures. Language teaching, however, tends to focus on language skills, while cultural understanding is seldom the main goal and is even sometimes avoided. In this article we shall show how intercultural competence may be developed through the use of technically-mediated and culturally-oriented online learning materials, websites, and learning platforms, which help cultivate intercultural competence through social collaboration, understanding, reflection, and appreciation
