The article presents a methodology for calculating the energy balance and evaluating the effectiveness of the hydraulic power steering (GRU) of a car at the design stage. The method includes calculations of: pressure loss of the working fluid, heat release in the GRU, temperature of the working fluid in the GRU and efficiency of the GRU. The article presents the dependence of the amount of heat released in the GRU on the frequency of rotation of the engine crankshaft and the moment of resistance to the rotation of the steered wheels when the vehicle is moving on sand.
