Education is considered as the backbone of society. It is founded either by the government or by certain private undertaking for the benefit of common people. In the case of the Christian missionaries in India, they felt the need of education for the purpose of transforming Indian nation towards modern world. They decided to work against the illiteracy and ignorance of the people of the country. At the same time, they also realized that to succeed the work depend solely on full co-operation and involvement of the people of the country.
