IMIDOCHLORIDES. PART VII. REACTION OF ANILIDE lMIDOCHLORIDES WITH ETHYL SODIOACETOACETA TE. SYNTHESIS OF 4-HYDROXY2-PHENYL-3-ACETYLQUINOLINES

Benzanilide imidochloride has been condensed with ethyl sodicacetoacetate and the resulting intermediate condensation product, which could not be isolated in a pure state, has been cyclised to 4-hydroxy-2-phenyl-3-acetylquinoline. The synthesis has been extended to other imidochlorides derived from benzoyl derivatives of mono substituted anilines and the corresponding 4-hydroxy-2-phenyl-3- acetylquinolines, which ale otherwise inaccessible, have now been synthesised. The synthesis has been also extended to naphthalene series and the corresponding benzoquinolines have been synthesised from imidochlorides derived from benzoyl derivatives of \(\alpha\)- and \(\beta\)-naphthylamines
