Art Object as a Specific Art Form in Modern Ukrainian Fashion

The purpose of the article is to analyse the conceptual basis of the art object as a specific art form in the fashion industry and to identify creative techniques and design tools for creating a catwalk image as an art object. Methods. The methods of historical analysis, comparison, and generalisation were used to study aesthetic concepts in the art of the 19th-20th century. In the process of identifying creative approaches and means of creating catwalk images, the methods of synthesis, observation, figurative-stylistic and figurative-associative analysis were applied. Results. Based on the analysis, it has been proved that the current stage of development of the fashion industry is marked by a new understanding of the function of the design work, and a rethinking of traditional approaches to the presentation of clothing models. It has been determined that the search of artists for the establishment of exclusively artistic ideals in the field of art has influenced the course of fashion development. Since the period of modernism in the 1920s and 1930s, fashion has been largely guided by the images, plots, and means of expression of fine art. The essence of the concept of “art for art’s sake”, which was developed by artists and writers of the ninetieth century in France, such as Théophile Gautier and Charles Baudelaire, later in Great Britain – Dante Gabriel Rosetti and William Morris, is analyzed. The interpretation of this concept by Ukrainian art critic V. L. Skurativskyi has been considered. The principle of the predominance of the artistic component over the functional characteristics, in particular in clothing design, has been analysed in the context of the art design development in the works of M. Yakovlev, Y. Lehenkyi, O. Lahoda, O. Lukovska. The specificity of an art object in the framework of fashion lies in the possibilities of presenting a fashion trend and transmitting cultural and artistic values. Scientific novelty. For the first time in the national art studies, on the example of the models of the Ukrainian designer Oksana Karavanska’s collection, the creative techniques that combine the structure of the dress and the images of the artist Maria Pryimachenko’s works are revealed, namely: the transformation of the pictorial element into a three-dimensional form used as a décor of clothes; transformation of the creative source using application and painting; transfer (“citation”) using digital printing of the image from the artist’s canvas to the fabric
