Background: During the past decades, Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE) has been increasingly recognized as an important human pathogen. Osteoarticular infections is one of the predominant disease manifestations of SDSE, but the pathogenetic rationale for its arthritogenicity has yet to be unravelled.
