Meningococcal meningitis is bacterial meningitis, a severe infection of the thin membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Meningococcal meningitis is associated with high case mortality (up to 50% when untreated) and severe sequelae frequency (more than 10%). Therefore, early antibiotic treatment is the primary measure available to save lives and reduce complications. Meningococcal meningitis is observed worldwide but lies within the meningitis belt, extending from Africa. sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal in the west to the east of Ethiopia is the heaviest burden of the disease. About 30,000 cases are still reported each year in this area which shows an incalculable potential danger to humankind in the 21st century
