The review of the literature analyzes the ideas of physiological and clinical nervism from the classics of science to the present days. Special attention is paid to the state of modern biomedical science. But in spite of the modern research equipment and new instrumental methods of diagnosis and treatment, there is still no generalizing theory of normal physiological and pathological processes adequate to these methods. Without such a theory, it is impossible to arrange a huge experimental and clinical material into a single system. Meanwhile, it is possible to translate the ideas, principles and concepts into a generalizing theory of normal physiological and pathological processes. This theory could help systematize numerous experimental, clinical and theoretical data based on common principles and form the core of the 21st century biology and medicine paradigm
