Synthesis, physicochemical characteristics and biological activity of ruthenium(III) complexes with bidentate (N, 0) Schiff bases

The obtained complexes were characterized on the basis of their elemental analysis, electronic spectra, magnetic moment, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy as well as thermal analysis. The ruthenium(III) complexes belong to low spin d5 configuration. Spectral (IR, 1H NMR) studies shows that all the Schiff bases behave as bidentate ligands and coordinated to ruthenium metal atom via nitrogen and oxygen. The Schiff bases and their complexes have been screened for their in vitro antibacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Bactllus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) activities by disc diffusion method
