ACTIVITIES OF THE TVER AGRICULTURAL CORRECTIONAL COLONY FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS IN 1897

By the beginning of the twentieth century in the Russian Empire, a network of specialized educational shelters was formed for the correction of juvenile criminals. Such institutions organically combined the teaching of general education subjects and agronomic skills. The Tver society of agricultural colonies and craft orphanages controlled the formation and operation of correctional institutions for juvenile delinquents on the territory of their province. Members of the public organization resolved issues related to financing and hiring a staff of teachers. The society interacted with the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the civil administration of the Russian Empire. One of the main problems affecting the development of penitentiary institutions for juvenile offenders was their adaptation after release from the shelter. It was the financial support of shelters and training in agricultural skills and general education disciplines that could become the key to the return of the teenager who committed the crime to the subsequent active social life
