This article attempts to prove the decisive role of the socio-cultural discourse in which a person exists on the paths of his self-knowledge and knowledge of the surrounding reality. As a problematic issue, the question is raised - can a person be reduced to a particular element of the social and cultural structure that defines him, or is he fundamentally not reduced to anything. The author of the article relies on the works of philosophers, sociologists, culturologists and essayists who analyze similar issues
