A new framework is presented for contextual analysis of naturally designed scenes. In this framework, the random distribution of the scale-chromatic complexity is captured as environmental saliency for activating emotional perception mechanisms. The randomness-based saliency is articulated into contex- tual representations of the ground-object structure. Through experimental studies, the environmental saliency was demonstrated to provide a perceptual basis for the contextual identification and direct visualization of the unpredictable distribution of emotional expressions in complex scenes
