Is Vatican II still relevant in the current contentious debate between relativism and fundamentalism? Is the institutional Church being irresponsibly heavyhanded? Who has authority and who gives it? Who or where is the Church? What is the role of the individual Christian vis-a-vis tradition? These are some of the questions I attempt to answer in this short reflection on Karl Rahner’s ideas on “authority” and “Church.
