This paper reports the results of an empirical investigation into the role of autobiographical memories with emotional significance in architectural design conjecturing. The empirical research consisted of a comparison of two case studies; three types of qualitative methods were used for data analysis. This paper describes the purpose of the use of autobiographical memories with emotional significance in design conjecturing as those memories emerge from an analysis of the talking aloud protocols used by the designers
