Literature on Ukrainian Folk Choreography: Art Criticism and Theoretical and Methodological Aspects

The purpose of the article is to justify the need of developing a special program for the preparation and publication of the art criticism literature on Ukrainian folk dance. The methodology of the study is to apply comparative, historical and logical, and art-historical methods. This methodological approach allows us to analyze the current state and problem areas of literature on folk choreography and to identify new creative resources for expanding the subject field of choreographic education and the formation of an adequate reception of folk choreographic art for the general public. Scientific novelty. For the first time professional publications have been analyzed, the necessity of initiating different genre art studies of national choreographic art is grounded. Conclusions. For years of independence, Ukrainian art criticism has been enriched by many quality publications; however the today professional literature provision has nearly one-sided character: on one hand there are qualitative textbooks, on the other hand one can witness a shortage of textbooks. A successful attempt to introduce a new model of the textbook is a work of S. L. Zubatov on “Methodology of Teaching Ukrainian Folk Dance”, designed for the first year of study students and based on Naddnipryanshchyna folk choreography materials. Similar textbooks should be prepared in all regions of Ukraine
