Risk assessment of the consumption of amygdalin-containing bitter apricot kernels and bitter almonds

Lately, an increased consumption of apricot kernels and bitter almonds has been observed in Greece. To some extent, those products have been promoted, mainly from various nutrition- or health-oriented internet sites, as having “anti-cancer” properties. This has been followed by an increased number of recorded cases with symptoms of acute poisoning, some of which have been hospitalised.
