Interpretations of Classic Heritage Ballets on the Stage of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater in the Middle 20th – the Beginning of the 21st Century

The purpose of the article is to analyze the ballets of the classical heritage in the repertoire of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater of the mid-twentieth – early 21st century. Methodology. Based on the analysis of theatrical reviews, scientific articles and monographs, using the historical and chronological principle, the panorama of the classical heritage ballets on the stage of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater is reproduced. The scientific novelty lies in the introducing into the scientific circulation of new materials that significantly complement the picture of the ballet’s development of the Lviv Opera and the revealing of artistic features of classical heritage performances that were staged on the Lviv stage in the middle of the twentieth – at the beginning of the 21st century. Conclusions. A significant part of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater’s repertoire in the period from the middle of the twentieth century and to this day consists of the ballets that have become part of the world repertoire tradition and are canonical choreographic canvases (staged by M. Petipa, J. Perrault, J. Coralli, A. Bournonville, A. Gorsky, A. Ivanov, etc.), but they can have various editions, the authors of which, developing their own choreography, rely on the structure and meaning strata of their predecessors, preserving the canonical components of the versions of the 19th century. The Lviv Opera’s repertoire includes such ballets as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty by P. Tchaikovsky, Giselle by A. Adan, La Bayadere and Don Quixote by L. Minkus, Coppelia by L. Deliba, Vain precaution by P. Gertel, Esmeralda by C. Pugni, Halt of the cavalry by I. Armsheimer, Paquita by E. Deldevez, Corsair to the music of L. Delibes, C. Pugni, P. Oldenburgsky, R. Drigo, etc. The production of classical ballets was addressed by both the staff choreographers of the theatre – M. Tregubov, M. Zaslavsky, G. Isupov, P. Malkhasyants, A. Isupova, and invited masters – A. Andreev, N. Stukolkina, S. Drechin, Yu. Malkhasyants and others. The presence of such performances in the repertoire with the level of their complexity confirms the high professional level of the troupe, its readiness for new artistic challenges
