Background: We evaluate addition of dexmedetomidine to local anesthesia in retrobulbar block in patient underwent primary retinal detachment surgery. Methods: Sixty patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups (n=30). In both retrobulbar block was perfomed. In addition, group B received dexomedetomidine 1μg/kg with local anesthesia. Motor kinesia, motor and sensory block duration, postoperative pain was assessed by visual analog scale time and first demand for analgesia were recorded. Also degree of sedation evaluated during surgery. Results: In group B with addition of dexmedetomidine the number of patient who developed akinesia more and requirement of supplementary injection were lowered.
