This text presents the special issue Beauty contests in Latin America published in the Journal de la Société des Américanistes from a series of themes - ethnicity, gender, beauty, political representation, patrimonialization - that appear through all the articles of this issue. The diversity of the references discussed here is intended to suggest new reflections and to provoke resonance within this little-explored research object at the crossroads of performance, politics, aesthetics and gender.
