Popular Mass Dance Vogue: the Origin and the Present

The purpose of the article is to analyse the history of the origin and choreography features of the popular mass dance of our time Vogue. Methods. The research methodology of the choreography history of the modern popular dances is based on an interdisciplinary synthesis of scientific methods and approaches integrated with art studies, history, culturology, and sociology. Along with the use of general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, and generalisation, it allows us to better understand the main socio-cultural features of the emergence and style of performing the main elements of the choreographic phenomenon — Vogue dance. Results. Vogue is an extremely mannered, fashionable, eloquent dance. During its performance, the dancers first seem to freeze in the stereotypical poses of models in glossy magazines, and then begin to perform choreographic movements. Today, there are four main dance styles: Old Way, New Way, Vogue Femme, and Dramatics. Nowadays, having gained mass popularity, Vogue choreography continues to develop stylistically, effectively responding to the demands of the modern audience, and especially to the psycho-emotional needs of performers, who, through dance, can demonstrate the fashion for self-confidence and authenticity. Thus, Vogue dance has become primarily a choreographic form of expression of identity, self-expression of the queer community, and the struggle for rights and freedoms, including gender identity.
