Kinetics of Bromine Addition to Chalkones

The bimolecular rate constant (k) and activation energy (E) for the bromination of various mono-, di- and tri-substituted chalkones in methanol, nitrobenzene and benzene have been measured. Changes in rate with substitution are mainly due to changes in E. The frequency factor and the solvent effects on rate have been studied. From the slope of the regression line fitted to log k and \(\sigma_o\) data, the \('rho'\) value has been calculated. A probable mechanism has been suggested
