An Expert System for Tourist Destinations

Internationally, the importance of studying tourism statistics for the diagnosis of tourist trends and the assessment of actions undertaken by tourism operators has been recognized. The analysis of the decisions and choices of tourists is of particular and increased importance. Characteristics, determinants and anticipation of tourism demand attract the interest of academic and scientific circles as well as tourism professionals and those who are responsible for tourism policy. In the present study, it is proposed a system, within the domain ESTD.GR, as an Expert System for Tourist Destinations collaborating with user-tourist-type. It also deals with the key aspects of the consumer behavior of tourists, such as their motivations, choices and decisions. The choice of appropriate variables is based on a number of factors such as the tourist type, countries of origin, time period considered due to economic crisis, costs, user ratings and the forms and type of tourism we are concerned with (e.g. business tourism, visiting relatives and friends, seeking sun or wandering, etc.). In addition, it is proposed to establish an online platform that will introduce the statistics of each company so that with the support of an automated intelligent system, possible findings can be extracted and the results from these data visualized for the optimization of tourist statistics by tourist companies
