Abstract

It has been demonstrated that the intramolecular acylation of suitably constituted \(\gamma\)-lactones to yieId cyclopentenones is best carried out with polyphosphcrie acid. A possible mechanism for the formation of \(\gamma\)-lactones by the action of alkylmagnesium halides on \(\gamma\)-keto-esters has been discussed
