Effect of an Educational Program for the Caregivers Coping Levels and Quality of Life of their Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Background: Cancer arises from the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells in a multistage process that generally progresses from a pre-cancerous lesion to a malignant tumor. Aim of the Study: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of an educational program for the caregivers coping levels and quality of life of their patients undergoing chemotherapy. Design: A quasi- experimental design was used in this study. Setting: the current study was conducted at oncology units in BeniSuief University Hospital. Study Subjects: A purposive sample of (100) patients after 3sessions of chemotherapy and their caregivers from previous mentioned setting. Data Collection Tools: tools of the study consist of three tools, tool(1) Interview questionnaire tool (2) Adaptive coping strategies questionnaire (3) Quality of life scale Index. Results: The results of this study showed that, majority of the studied caregivers had satisfactory level of intermediate total level of knowledge. Higher improvement in the total level of coping among caregivers post program than preprogram. Highly improvement in the total level of quality of life among the studied subject post program than preprogram. Conclusion: There were a highly significant improvement in the level of caregiver's coping level and improvement in the quality of life for their patients among studied caregivers and there patients of the implementation of the program. Recommendations: Replication of the study using a large probability samples acquired from different geographic areas
