Abstract There is a growing consciousness among the global business community that corporations or business organisations can no longer act independently of the individuals of key stakeholders in the operations, especially members of the host communities. Part of the realisation stems from the fact that creating and maintaining mutually beneficial relationship with host communities is highly dependent on the extent to which firms contribute to the sustainable development of the community and its inhabitants.
