Synthesis, spectroscopic and antibacterial studies of mono- and bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) derivatives with thiohydantoins

Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur-273 009, Uttar Pradesh, India E-mail : sengupta2002@yahoo. co. in Manuscript received 12 December 2006, accepted 21 March 2007 The reactions of bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium(Iv) chloride with a new series of heterocyclic thione i.e. thiohydantoins (LH) have been studied in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran in the presence an amine and complexes of the types [(C5H5)2 TiCI(L)] and [(C5H5)Ti(L)3] were obtained. Tentative structural conclusions are drawn for these reaction products based upon elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic moment and spectral (UV-VIS, IR and 1H NMR) data. Attempts have been made to establish a correlation between antibacterial activity and the structures of the products
