ORGANIZATION OF DISTRIBUTION OF LAND PLOTS IN THE FAR EAST FOR RETIRED RANKS OF THE MANCHURIAN ARMY

The article examines the colonization of the Far East, which was one of the most important problems of Russian domestic and foreign policy at the beginning of the twentieth century. After the defeat in the Russian-Japanese War of 1904-1905, relations with China have been seriously deteriorating. Therefore, special attention was paid to the situation on the Russian-Chinese border, where there was a significant increase in cases of violation of the state border by Hunghuz gangs. The military department of the Russian Empire did not unreasonably believe that Russia and China were on the eve of a major armed conflict. According to Russian military experts, only the nationwide revolutionary crisis that broke out in China prevented the upcoming military confrontation. One of the planned state measures to strengthen the Russian Far Eastern borders and stabilize relations with China was the distribution of land plots in the Irkutsk General Government and the Amur Region to retired ranks of the Russian army. First of all, it was about retired officers and lower ranks of the Manchurian army who took part in the Russian-Japanese war of 1904 – 1905. At the same time, the appearance of Russian landowners in the Irkutsk General Government and the Amur Region was supposed to have a positive impact on the colonization of the Far East. The distribution of land plots to retired Russian military personnel on the territory of the Irkutsk Governor-General ensured a noticeable increase in Russian influence in the zone of state interests. Moreover, former Russian servicemen could serve as an important support in the event of a possible armed Russian-Chinese conflict
