Cost-competitiveness of distributed ammonia production for the global fertilizer industry

This repositories contains the following files: calculations.zip: scripts to produce the results of the paper. Scripts should be run following the numerical order of the names; plot.zip: scripts to reproduce the figures presented in the paper; input_data.zip: folder containing the scripts used to process the raw input data of the study. Raw data are stored in .tif format in the folder input_raster and inlcude the following folders. solar - raster files of Global Horizontal Irradiation (GHI) and capacity factor (PVOUT) water_scarcity - raster files of binary values (0,1) indicating the absence (0) or presence (1) of wateer scarcity in the current scenario (Current) and future scenario (Gap) yield_gap - raster files from Mueller et al related to Nitrogen demand in current scenario (FertilizerCropSpecific_Geotiff), Cropland area (HarvestedArea_Geotiff), and gap in Nitrogen demand to achieve 100% of the yield potential over croplands (YieldGapMajorCrops_Geotiff) Source Data.xlsx: database summarizing the data of ammonia demand and cost-competitive supply from distributed ammonia production under different historical market prices. Data are clustered at country and continent level
