Thematization Peculiarities and Prosodic Feature of British Limericks

The paper explores the functional thematization patterns in the British limerick poems. Simply put, the more unmarked theme in most frequent, the more basic in all the three types of thematic construction. The analysis of the data indicates that unmarked thematic prediction assigns to topical and textual limericks comparing them with the interpersonal. On the other side, masculine rhymes are higher in rates in these limericks than the feminine ones. Limericists use masculine rhyme to create specific sound patterns and to link lines as a means to help emphasize their theme. In general, both qualitative and quantitative data analysis were employed in this study. Qualitative analysis was carried out in order to identify and categorize marked thematization patterns and types of rhymes in this study. Quantitative analysis, on the other hand, was conducted to determine the occurrences of thematization patterns and markedness besides the two types of rhyme (masculine and feminine) in the British limericks under analysis
