The paper explores the functional thematization patterns in the British limerick poems. Simply put, the more unmarked theme in most frequent, the more basic in all the three types of thematic construction. The analysis of the data indicates that unmarked thematic prediction assigns to topical and textual limericks comparing them with the interpersonal. On the other side, masculine rhymes are higher in rates in these limericks than the feminine ones. Limericists use masculine rhyme to create specific sound patterns and to link lines as a means to help emphasize their theme.
