Dichloroacetic Acid Solvent System. III Solubility of Substances and the Nature of Their Solutions in Dichloroacetic Acid

Ionic compounds are sparingly soluble. Iodides and thiocyanates are more soluble than the chlorides and bromides. Tetraalkylammonium halides are very soluble. A number of adducts of Lewis acids and bases with dichloroacetic acid have been isolated. From the conductance, cryoscopic and it spectral studies, these adducts have been found to be ionic in nature. From the equivalent conductance studies in acetic acid, the adducts BBr2.CHC2,COOH and SbCI5.CHCI2,COOH have been found to be strong Bronsted acids. Conductometric and visual titrations between solvo acids and bases have been carried out in dichloroacetic acid to prove its autoionisation
