Magnetism Department, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur, Calcutta-700 032 Mössbauer spectra of iron-containing inorganic and oganometallic compounds provide important information. The products of corrosion of mild steel in dilute saline and acidic medium have been identified and the diffusion constant that gives the rate of the corrosion reaction has been measured. Iron bearing minerals of eastern India are being systematically explored for geochemical information. Radiation damage in steel with Iron has also been studied to learn about defects formed in the process
