This study aims to find out the motivational levels of tertiary-level Turkish vocational school students to learn English at school, and possible factors that may motivate them to learn English in the instructional context. With this purpose, 116 students were given a motivation questionnaire (MQ) which was accompanied by an open-ended section to explore the overall motivation level of the students and the participants’ thoughts about the possible motivators towards learning English. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data revealed that there was a low level of motivation towards learning English at school and this resulted from several factors such as student/teacher-related factors, curriculum issues, administrative issues, and ...
