Vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication may eliminate problems associated with traditional traffic control systems. With the SAE J2735 standard and IntelliDriveSM, real time as well as vehicle specific information (such as vehicle occupancy or the engine capacity) is available to a traffic controller. This technology enables the controller to collect data from nearby vehicles periodically. Goal of designing adaptive traffic signal control that utilizes these data elements is to optimize appropriate metric at an intersection.
