Note on the land snails of Buraco forest (Central Portugal)

Abstract

Mata do Buraco is an arboretum rich in exotic species, which, however, coexist with residual autochthonous flora. These features, together with the moderate but humid climate of the site, appear to provide optimal conditions for terrestrial molluscs. Of these, the fauna found comprises 21 species, of which the most abundant are are Leiostyla anglica, Acanthinula aculeata and Clausilia bidentata rugosa. On the contrary, it is notorious and poverty in helicids. Columella aspera Walden, 1966 is cited as new for Portugal and compared with C. edentula
