Abstract Since its discovery in mid 19th century, various papers regarding waterjet processes have been published, making this technology mature from the research standpoint. The goal of this review is to highlight advantages and issues of waterjet and abrasive waterjet basing on previous studies, as well as to provide statistical information about the quoted papers. This research is focused on three main material classes (metallic alloys, composite materials, soft materials), with particular regard to aerospace- and automotive- related applications.
