Environmental toxicities might encourage susceptibility to COVID-19 pandemic: A brief commentary

Heavy Metal toxicities in ecosystems around the globe as a result of anthropogenic activities such as industrialization, urbanization, mining, deforestation, desertification, pollution of natural resources has been a rapidly evolving and emerging environmental issue. Heavy Metal traces find their way to human bodies through food sources leading to several health complications of untreated nature. Asymptomatic and slow poisoning of human body through heavy metal poisoning leads to lack of medical attention or research based investigations. People living with immunocompromised health systems are more susceptible to diseases particularly highly infective pathogenicity of COVID19, the causative virus behind the rapidly evolving pandemic situation across the globe. It has been observed that patients with epidemiological history and known health complications such as diabetes, kidney disorders, blood pressure, cardiac anomalies, tuberculosis, HIV, immune disorders are more prone to COVID19 infections. This emergency medical condition is further accelerated by environmental toxicities such as heavy metal pollution of ecosystems leading to poisoing of soil, water, food crops and fishes consumed. These scientific observations require comprrehensive medical investigations alongwith environmental testing to develop a blueprint on the crucial interplay between environment and health issues
