Among those, east Africa’s Nile River, which stretches 6,825 km across 11 riparian states all the way to the Mediterranean Sea, is not only considered the longest river on earth but also one of the most contentious ones. Egypt’s recent move in taking the matter to the US, Arab League, and UN Security Council adds fuel to the existing already burning Nile Basin dispute.
