In this paper we are analyzing two different approaches to the essence and functionality of the Greek language, based on the presentation of two scientists in a conference on “The Greek language in the enlarged European Union”. Then, we are presenting our personal opinion about the Greek language, synthetic and differentiated from the modern tendencies of specialization of linguistic science. Certainly, modern scientific views and reflections on the Greek language are significantly influenced by many different factors, such as the philosophy of globalization or ethnocentrism, the different schools of thought for the consideration of language on a theoretical and practical level etc.Ideological approaches to Greek languag
