The load assessment in water impacts problems involving complex geometries is generally a quite challenging task for numerical solvers. Indeed, the occurrence of large free-surface deformation, air cushioning and possible compressibility effects strain the standard Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes to their limits.
