Role of Education on Widow Empowerment in India

Abstract: Widow status is till now very low in Indian society. Since time immemorial, most women in India have been treated or regarded as the downtrodden section of society. In spite of their huge contributions and achievements in various fields of Indian history, they are still subject to inhuman torture, brutality, and distress. Education nourishment helps to build up our inner self and perfection. Education and economy go hand in hand for the proper growth and development of a society. Without marriage, the concept of widowhood will never come up. Widowhood can be of both sexes irrespective of their age, race, caste, creed, religion, or socio-cultural conditions. The widow is the condition of a woman who has lost her husband and this particular state is known as widowhood. The crisis of a widow is initiated physically, psychologically, socially, and most importantly economically. Initially in our Indian society what happened women were not imparted with knowledge eventually they were neither allowed to go to any educational institutions nor were taught at home by private tutors. Thus, lack of education creates unemployment and treats them as homemakers. It should be the government as well as our responsibility to implement or conduct all the possible undertakings for basic education and the overall development of women in our society
