Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a chronic clonal stem cell disease that causes an accumulation of marrow fibrosis and dysfunction, hypermetabolic states, and extramedullary myeloid metaplasia. The onset of the disease is often asymptomatic, which causes a late referral to a specialist, the disease being already confirmed in the fibrotic stage with a massive splenomegaly, which lowers the survival rate of patients with an established diagnosis.
