СРЕДСТВА МОДЕРАЦИИ (МИТИГАЦИИ И ИНТЕНСИФИКАЦИИ) ВЫСКАЗЫВАНИЙ КРИТИКИ И НЕОДОБРЕНИЯ В РЕЧЕВОМ ПОВЕДЕНИИ АНГЛОЯЗЫЧНЫХ КОММУНИКАНТОВ

Discourse in the paper is dealt with as a complex dynamic system, exposed to the influence of external factors and capable of self-organisation. The discourse management phenomenon (including hedging and boosting) is viewed as a response to the impact of external context in the form of norms and regulations and an example of self-organisation of the structure and a zone of self-ordering. The object of the research is to explicate and describe regularities of functioning of hedging and boosting tools with regard to expressions of criticism and disapproval in different kinds of contemporary English discourse. The paper analyses the cases where means of moderation, which are normally used as instruments of Politeness and realization of the Grice Cooperation Principle with the view to preserve and maintain a positive social image (“Face”) of a communicator, can achieve the opposite communicative effect in expressions of criticism and disapproval.The author concludes that in the case of negative judgments with their high confrontational capacity means of moderation can not ensure smooth and effective communication, and harmonious interpersonal relationship
