Conventional antibiotics are facing significant microbial resistance, which has recently reached previously unnoticed critical levels. As a result of this situation, a large proportion of antimicrobial agents currently used in the clinic have significantly reduced therapeutic potential. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) may offer the medical community an alternative strategy to traditional antibiotics in the fight against microbial resistance.
