SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES OF EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PRINCIPLES OF FUNCTIONING OF CHERNIHIV FEMALE AND MALE GYMNASIUMS AT THE MAIN STAGES OF THEIR FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT in the 19th – the early 20th c.

The article deals with the similarities and differences of the educational and training principles of Chernihiv female and male gymnasiums in the 19th–20th c., and their comparative analysis is carried out. The purpose of the article is a historical analysis and clarification of the issue of similarities and differences in the educational and training principles of Chernihiv female and male gymnasiums at the main stages of their formation and development in the 19th – the early 20th c. Among the methods that were used, the main ones are analytical and critical, on which the processing of the obtained information was based. The scientific novelty is that for the first time a thorough study of the similarities and differences of the educational and training principles of Chernihiv female and male gymnasiums in the 19th–20th c. was conducted. Conclusions. In this study, based on historical analysis, the main question regarding the similarities and differences of the educational and training principles of Chernihiv female and male gymnasiums at the main stages of their formation and development in the 19th – early 20th c. is highlighted. We can conclude that gymnasium education in general was "classical", humanitarian and carried out with minimal attention to natural sciences. Our study of the educational process in female gymnasiums of pre-revolutionary Russia allows us to conclude that the content of female gymnasium education, already at the beginning of the 20th c. approached the content of education in menʼs gymnasiums, while preserving its features due to the understanding of the role of women in society at that time. This features included the absence of ancient languages, in-depth study of the Law of God, and a more pronounced practical orientation of education
