Local Administrations in Turkey Adaptation Process to The European Union

The European Union, which is sensitive to many problems including democracy, human rights, freedom of the press, and independence of the judiciary, stated that the important point in fulfilling these principles should be the construction of its own local government structures. This argument was based on the fact that the EU is sensitive to matters such as democracy, human rights, freedom of the press, and independence of the judiciary. In particular, the European Union, which seeks to exert its influence on the national governments of the candidate countries by means of Europeanization, promotes active political participation via the use of its economic framework and financial programs. Local governments of the European Union, on which the European Charter of Local Autonomy is founded, are the primary sites of democratic participation and decision-making. Many changes of local governments have been implemented in Turkey during the course of the lengthy process leading up to the country's entrance to the European Union. As a result of these reforms, the structure of local governments in Turkey has also been modified. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate, with regard to Turkey's municipal administrations, how the process of Europeanization interacts with monetary assistance. The Turkish viewpoint on the European Charter of Local Autonomy has been taken into consideration in this analysis. In addition, the issues that are included in the European Charter of Local Autonomy as well as the local government structure that is already in place in Turkey were investigated
