Thermophysical properties of binary mixtures of N,N-dimethylformamide with isomeric butanols at 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K

E-mail : mahendraroy2002@yahoo.co.in Manuscript received 6 March 2006, revised 11 August 2006, accepted 16 October 2006 Densities and viscosities of the binary mixtures of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) with 1-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 2-butanol and 2-methyl-2-propanol were measured at 298.15, 308.15 and 31S.l5 Kover the entire composition range. The composition-dependence of densities and viscosities was checked by using an empirical relation. The experimental data were used to calculate excess molar volumes (VE:) and deviations in viscosity (∆ᶯ). These results were fitted to Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. The density and viscosity data have been analyzed in terms of some semiempirical viscosity models and the results have been discussed in terms of molecular interactions and structural effects. The excess properties were found to be either negative or positive depending on the molecular interactions and the nature of liquid mixtures
