This paper approaches the issue of water quality in river-type aquatic systems. It is discussed the importance of applying the mathematical and numerical models in order to assess the water quality and to predict different water pollution scenarios. It is presented an analysis of the field regarding the mathematical modeling of the spatio-temporal evolution of pollutants in river-type aquatic systems. As well, it is examined the water quality and are discussed the environmental issues regarding the pollution of the Dniester River.
