DOIAbstract
Complete exchange of chlorine has been observed between benzyldimethylphenylammoninm chloride containing radioactive chlorine-36 and acetyl chloride within 5 minutes. The results favour self-ionisation of the acetyl chloride. The self-ionisation of acetyl chloride has boon recently proposed to explain the reactions occurring in this solvent, Acetyl chloride is supposed to ionise as : \(CH_3COCl \rightleftharpoons CH_3CO^+ +CL^-\
