Genesis and main directions of the new EU regional policy (in the context of experience for Ukraine)

The article reveals the features of the new regional policy. The evolution (events, events, results) of its formation in the EU countries is traced. The main directions of this policy are compared in Ukraine and in EU countries. The main directions of the new regional policy of EU countries are analyzed (in terms of borrowing from foreign experience), namely: uniting countries and regions; economic convergence of developed and less developed countries and regions; regulation of development of problem areas and urban agglomerations; intensification of cross-border cooperation and European territorial cooperation; enhancing regional competitiveness and employment. The importance of foreign experience of innovating the development of regional economy (smart specialization, industry development 4.0, etc.) and the necessity of its introduction into Ukrainian practice of developing and implementing new regional policy are emphasized
